ABOUT US


The Águilas Mental Health Association (AFEMAC) is a non-profit association that works for the rights and quality of life of people with mental illness and their families.


Among the purposes of AFEMAC, we highlight:

    Provide effective assistance for people with mental illness and their families. Defend the fair psychosocial development of people with mental illness. Raise awareness in the community to improve the integration and acceptance of people with mental illness and the protection of their rights. Illness Mental disorder is an emotional, cognitive or behavioral alteration that makes it difficult for a person to adapt to their social environment and creates subjective discomfort. It does not mean lower intellectual capacity. It does not imply chronicity or permanence in the individual's life once developed.



    People with mental illness are fully capable of making rational decisions about their own lives and can lead a normal personal and work life. 25% of the population suffers from a mental disorder throughout their lives. 22% of the population suffers from episodes of anxiety and depression throughout their lives. 1% of the population will develop some form of schizophrenia throughout their lives. Mental illnesses account for 40% of chronic illnesses and are the largest cause of years lived with disabilities
